Around Town: Gala to recognize United Cerebral Palsy supporters
Supporters of United Cerebral Palsy of Orange County will be acknowledged at the organization’s Life Without Limits Gala at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the Balboa Bay Resort in Newport Beach.
Dana Dowers, president and chief executive of Irvine-based D.L.D. Insurance Brokers Inc., will be honored with the Legacy Award for his commitment to the health and welfare of children with disabilities.
The Horowitz Group, based in Laguna Niguel, will be honored with the Corporate Impact Award for its financial support of the organization.
United Cerebral Palsy of Orange County offers programs and services to children and families affected by cerebral palsy, autism, epilepsy, Down syndrome and developmental delays.

SOS opens dental care center in Newport Beach
Costa Mesa-based Share Our Selves is offering pediatric dental care to Orange County families through the newly opened SOS Dr. Robert & Dorothy Beauchamp Children & Family Dental Center in Newport Beach.
The facility provides general and specialty dentistry to infants, children and adolescents. It also offers health education to teach youths and their families about daily care, routine dental visits and food nutrition.
The clinic is staffed with multilingual pediatric dentists, according to a news release.
The center benefits from a $1 million endowment from Richard and Theresa Meehan Beauchamp. Richard’s father, Robert Beauchamp, began his dental practice in 1939 and embraced low-income families.
The new dental center is at 307 Placentia Ave. It is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Appointments can be made by calling (949) 270-2100.

Orange Coast College honored for marketing
The department of marketing and public relations at Orange Coast College received a Paragon Award at a National Council for Marketing and Public Relations conference March 13 in St. Louis.
The Costa Mesa college also received a silver award in the Sports Brochure category in recognition of OCC’s 2015 football information brochure.
The Paragon Awards acknowledge achievements in communication for two-year community and technical colleges across the country.

OCC to hold spring plant sales
Orange Coast College’s annual Spring Plant Sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 15, 22 and 29.
The sale, presented by the school’s horticulture department, will be in OCC’s garden nursery by the parking lot at Adams Avenue and Pinecreek Drive in Costa Mesa.
The event will include warm-season vegetables, herbs, geranium baskets, color baskets, scaevola and coleus. Horticulture faculty members and volunteers will be present to advise guests.
“This is a longstanding community event that helps people jump-start their spring gardens,” Lori Pullman, a horticulture instructor, said in a statement. “We invite everyone to come and ask questions, buy plants and enjoy the company of like-minded folks.”
