The city of Costa Mesa has stepped up patrols and is looking at installing additional lighting in Brentwood Park after nearby residents raised safety concerns at a recent City Council meeting.

Some residents who live near the park, at 265 Brentwood St., turned out to the March 15 council meeting to complain that loiterers in the park were creating a nuisance and engaging in illegal activity.

They asked the council to look at putting additional lighting in the park.

Staff from the Costa Mesa Police and Public Services departments met with residents on April 8 and agreed to increase patrols and explore additional lighting to discourage loiterers, according to the city.

Money for new light poles in the park could be added to the proposed city budget for the next fiscal year.
