A man was arrested in Costa Mesa early Tuesday on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine and other offenses after a foot chase that briefly shut down part of the 405 Freeway.

Police stopped a man on a bicycle at 1685 Gisler Ave. at about 1 a.m. and asked him his identity, which he tried to hide, Costa Mesa police Sgt. Dan Miles said.

When police determined the man’s identity and tried to arrest him on a previous warrant, he fled on foot, crossing the 405 at one point and jumping into bushes, Miles said.

The California Highway Patrol shut down the northbound freeway for about 10 minutes as police established a perimeter.

Officers eventually arrested Alexander Stradwick, 24, of Costa Mesa on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine, false impersonation and attempted destruction of evidence, Miles said.

Two officers suffered minor injuries during the pursuit, Miles said.
