A man was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence after a screaming woman was reported being pulled into a Costa Mesa motel room Monday night, police said.
A caller reported the incident at the Travelodge in the 1400 block of Bristol Street about 7:38 p.m., and officers went to the scene, Costa Mesa police Sgt. Dan Miles said.
At first, nobody came to the door when officers knocked at the motel room where the woman had disappeared, Miles said.
Soon, however, officers talked with a man inside and convinced him to come out, according to police.
Officers detained the man and found the woman locked in the room’s bathroom, Miles said.
Christopher William Kirby, 51, of Westminster was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence and false imprisonment, Miles said.
Kirby is being held at Orange County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail, according to sheriff’s department records.

The woman, who complained that she was in some pain, declined treatment when paramedics arrived, police said.
