Biz News: Newport’s Hoag Hospital to receive honor at gala

Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach will be honored Sunday at the Leaders in Oral Health gala in Costa Mesa.

The event, presented by Healthy Smiles for Kids of Orange County, will recognize the hospital for contributing nearly $500,000 to Healthy Smiles, which seeks to reduce oral disease in children through oral health education, access to treatment and advocacy, according to a news release.

“We are thrilled to honor and celebrate community leaders who have tirelessly worked to decrease the oral health problems affecting thousands of school-aged children every year,” Ria Berger, chief executive of Healthy Smiles for Kids of Orange County, said in a statement.

H.B. brewery captures silver medal in Great American Beer Festival

Riip Beer Co. of Huntington Beach won a silver medal in last weekend’s Great American Beer Festival in Denver, which featured 7,227 beers from more than 1,700 breweries nationwide.

Riip got its medal for its Super Cali IPA in the American-Style India Pale Ale category.

In all, 286 medals were awarded in 96 categories.

Fountain Valley church schedules job fair

Fountain of Life Fellowship in Fountain Valley will offer a job fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday.

Companies, governments, staffing agencies, nonprofits and others will be recruiting at the fair, according to a news release. Those attending should dress in business attire and bring resumés.

Monark coming to South Coast Plaza

Monark Premium Appliance Co. is scheduled to open a new store at South Coast Plaza in November.

The store, which will be near the Costa Mesa shopping center’s Nordstrom, will be a luxury showroom for cooking, cooling and cleaning appliances, according to a news release.

San Clemente fundraiser helps Laguna mammal center

Area nonprofits benefited from a charity fundraiser at the Outlets at San Clemente, a shopping center developed by Newport Beach-based Craig Realty Group, that raised $42,150 on Oct. 8.

Among the beneficiaries was the Pacific Marine Mammal Center in Laguna Beach.

Newport company creates protective golf shirt

Newport Beach-based start-up CoLLo has release a new series of men’s golf shirts designed to block up to 95% of the sun’s rays.

The company, based at 895 Production Place, said the shirts, rated at UPF 50-plus, help protect golfers against ultraviolet radiation while on the course.
