Planners consider 2 Eastside restaurant concepts

Share

Monday’s Costa Mesa Planning Commission meeting is all about the eats — with the panel expected to decide whether to approve a new restaurant and permit an existing bar to convert into a full-menu eatery.

The two requests involve Eastside properties within a half-mile of each other.

Commissioners are scheduled to review a request to open a new restaurant, Crack Shack, in a former bank building at 196 E. 17th St.

If approved, Costa Mesa would be the third outlet in the fast-casual chain, which includes a location in San Diego’s Little Italy and a planned site in Encinitas.

Crack Shack’s menu is packed with chicken-and-egg-themed offerings, with a special focus on organic, free-range chicken. The venue also plans to offer beer, wine and cocktails.

The proposed operating hours are 8a.m. to midnight Sundays through Thursdays, and 8a.m. to 12:30a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

City staff is recommending approval.

Commissioners are also set to review plans to renovate and rebrand an existing bar and nightclub at 330 E. 17th St., Pierce Street Annex, into a full-menu restaurant called The Country Club.

The existing venue operates from noon to 2a.m. seven days a week with limited food service, according to planning documents. The proposed new restaurant would be able to operate from 6a.m. to 2a.m., also seven days a week.

Staff is recommending approval.

Monday’s meeting starts at 6p.m. in City Hall, 77 Fair Drive.
