Costa Mesa Sanitary District warns of possible plumbing scam

Share

The Costa Mesa Sanitary District is advising residents of a possible scam in which a plumber is going door to door posing as a district employee.

The district has received several reports of the person “urging residents to submit an application to authorize the plumber to perform work on their sewer laterals,” according to a notice from the district.

The sanitary district runs an assistance program to encourage residents to maintain their lateral sewer lines to keep them from becoming blocked. Lateral lines connect homes to the district main line.

“Please be advised that the district has not issued an exclusive contract to any plumbing company to perform work on residents’ sewer laterals,” the notice states. “The district encourages residents to be cautious when selecting the right plumber and to be informed about program parameters in order to prevent being scammed.”
