Huntington Beach crash injures 2 people; another is suspected of DUI

A crash that knocked down a power pole and sent an 18-year-old woman to a hospital with serious injuries closed Edinger Avenue and Springdale Street in Huntington Beach on Wednesday morning, police said.

Police arrested a Huntington Beach man on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Police said a Chrysler 200 and a Ford Ranger collided around 3:30 a.m. in the intersection of Springdale and Edinger. The Chrysler was traveling south on Springdale and the Ford was heading east on Edinger when the crash occurred, said Huntington Beach police Officer Jennifer Marlatt.

The Chrysler slammed into a power pole, knocking it over, Marlatt said.

An 18-year-old woman who was driving the Ford was ejected from the vehicle and was taken to a hospital with major injuries, Marlatt said. A passenger in the Ranger was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

Police arrested the Chrysler's driver, Darius Roberts, 27, on suspicion of DUI.

Edinger Avenue and Springdale Street were closed near the intersection Wednesday morning as police investigated the scene. The streets are expected to reopen before noon, according to police.
