DUI checkpoint in Huntington Beach on Friday and Saturday

Huntington Beach police will conduct a DUI checkpoint in an undisclosed area of the city Friday and Saturday.

Officers will be looking for signs of alcohol and drug impairment between 7 p.m. Friday and 3 a.m. Saturday, according to a news release.

In California, traffic fatalities increased 2.4% from 3,102 in 2014 to 3,176 in 2015, according to the news release. In the past three years, Huntington Beach police investigated 817 DUI collisions that resulted in eight deaths and 271 injuries, according to police.

The checkpoint is funded through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.
