A 26-year-old Santa Ana man was arrested this week on suspicion of smashing the windows of two cars in Fountain Valley and stealing property inside.

The first burglary was reported Nov. 21 at 17200 Newhope St. The second was reported Nov. 26 at an apartment complex in the 10300 block of Slater Avenue, according to Fountain Valley police.

In the first case, the vehicle’s front passenger window was smashed and a purse and wallet were taken from the car. The incident was captured on surveillance video and police were able to read the license plate on the burglar’s green 2011 Scion, police said.

Surveillance video also captured the victim’s credit cards being used in Santa Ana, police said.

In the second burglary, a car window was smashed and CDs were taken from inside. A security guard at the complex went to investigate after he heard glass break and wrote down the burglar’s license plate number as he fled. The license plate and vehicle description matched those of the car used in the first crime, police said.

On Tuesday, Fountain Valley detectives found a Scion matching the description parked in front of a home in Santa Ana.

Ricardo Perea Aguirre was arrested on suspicion of burglary and was booked into Orange County Jail with bail set at $20,000. Police said he confessed to the crimes.
