A 59-year-old Huntington Beach man died after firefighters found him at his burning home Saturday night.

The Fire Department received a report of a house fire at 10452 Shangri La Drive at 8:12 p.m.

When crews arrived at the scene, flames had blown through a sliding door at the rear of the house and ignited palm trees in the backyard, sending flames up to 50 feet in the air, said Battalion Chief Jeff Lopez.

Firefighters found Kenneth Konrath on the floor near the home’s entryway. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of death has not yet been determined, the Orange County coronor’s office said Monday.

A neighbor was taken to a hospital with complaints related to smoke inhalation.

Crews knocked down the blaze within about 25 minutes, Lopez said.

The fire caused about $250,000 in damage to the home. Its cause is under investigation, Lopez said.
