Police arrested a Fountain Valley man who they said had narcotics and cash on him at a Costa Mesa motel.

Officers responded to a report of people arguing and waving guns at the Sandpiper Motel at 1967 Newport Blvd. at 12:11 a.m. Thursday, Costa Mesa police Lt. Victor Bakkila said.

Police approached two men exiting a motel room. One of them tried to run, but an officer ran him down, police said.

Bakkila said police found heroin, cocaine, steroids and $5,000 in the man’s possession.

Officers also found large amounts of drugs and drug paraphernalia in one of the motel rooms, but no guns were found, Bakkila said.

Daniel Cameron, 24, was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance for sale, possession of prescription medications that were not his and resisting arrest, Bakkila said.

Cameron later posted $25,000 bail and was released from jail.

Other people were questioned at the scene, including a man who was with Cameron, but no one else was arrested, police said.
