Amy Peters and Michael Schwarzmann filed papers last week officially declaring their candidacy for the Newport-Mesa Unified School District Board of Education in the November election.

They join Leslie Bubb in challenging current trustees Vicki Snell, Martha Fluor and board President Dana Black, who all are running for reelection.

Schwarzmann is eyeing Snell’s seat representing Area 1. He is the father of two Newport-Mesa students and is a managing director for a public accounting, consulting and technology firm.

Snell was elected to the board in 2014.

Peters, who is running for Fluor’s Area 3 seat, is a Newport Beach resident, businesswoman and parent of three children who attend school in the Newport Harbor zone.

Fluor was elected to the board in 1991.

Bubb, a Newport Beach resident and teacher trainer, is running for the Area 6 seat that currently belongs to Black. Bubb is the mother of both a current student and a recent graduate of Newport Harbor High School.

Black has served on the board since 1996.
