A woman suspected of hit-and-run who was killed Thursday after crashing her car into a tree near downtown Huntington Beach has been identified.

Sharlene Lyle, 44, was found deceased near Main Street and Palm Avenue about 1:32 a.m., according to the Orange County coroner’s office.

Lyle’s city of residence was not available.

She had lost control of the car, a blue 2000 Nissan Maxima, while driving north on Main at a high speed and crashed into a tree, according to Huntington Beach police.

After further investigation, police said it appeared Lyle hit the tree shortly after fleeing from a two-vehicle collision near Main and Orange Avenue, nearly a half-mile away.

No one was injured in the two-vehicle incident, police spokeswoman Jennifer Marlatt said.
