Mailbag: Make a splash with a new Laguna Beach pool

Share

A new 108-by-75-foot city and school district swimming pool and a shallow teaching pool in Lang Park in Laguna Beach is a great idea.

Our pool on Park Avenue would continue to operate, but our high school’s championship water polo teams would finally have a pool large enough and deep enough to compete in, and practices could be scheduled at hours other than early mornings and late evenings.

In addition, adults and our growing senior population would benefit. Every young person in Laguna should have the opportunity to learn to swim along with our older citizens, and a new pool would offer the opportunity for exercise the year round. Let’s hope it happens.

Roundabouts work well in Europe

Anti-roundabout letter writer Rob MacFarlane couldn’t figure out how to make a left turn on the roundabout after 20 years of trying (“Mailbag: Roundabouts aren’t fair play,” Feb. 24)?

To give him the benefit of the doubt, has he been trying for 10 years, five years, one year? What happened to that good, ol’ can-do American spirit? Or are roundabouts just too progressively European?

Herdman took correct stand on development

Thank you councilman Jeff Herdman for standing up and fighting for the will of the people in regards to Museum House.

Your courageous action reminds me of a verse from the musical Les Miserables:

“Do you hear the people sing? Singing the songs of angry men? It is the music of a people who will not be slaves again! When the beating of your heart echoes the beating of the drums, there is a life about to start when tomorrow comes.”
