College Roundup: UCI splits with Seattle

Doubleheader

SEATTLE – Visiting UC Irvine won the first game, 3-2, but fell, 8-2, in Game 2, in nonconference play on Sunday at Seattle University.

Adam Alcantara doubled in the winning run in the eighth inning and Calvin Faucher pitched a perfect ninth for his eighth save of the season in the opener.

Alex Guenette hit a two-run home run to join Alcantara, Parker Coss and Evan Cassolato as Anteaters with two hits in Game 1.

Andre Pallante earned the win in relief.

In Game 2, Cassolato had two hits, while Mikey Duarte and Alcantara drove in runs for UCI (11-6).

Seattle is 7-11.

UCI’s scheduled home game with USC on Tuesday was rained out.

Santa Ana 7, Golden West 6

SANTA ANA – The visiting Rustlers fell to 12-10, 4-3 in the Orange Empire Conference on Tuesday.

Santa Ana is 16-7, 2-5.

No statistics were immediately available.

Marymount 15, Vanguard 10

Shane Elias-Calles was three for four with four runs batted in and three runs to lead the host Lions in the nonconference game Tuesday.

Brandon Sandoval had three RBIs and three runs for Vanguard (19-13).

Sandoval and Elias-Calles hit home runs.

Marymount is 10-10.

SOFTBALL

Orange Coast 13, Golden West 2

Linnea Donahugh was three for three with four runs batted in, three stolen bases and two runs to lead the visiting Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference game Monday.

Jenna Hernandez was two for four with three RBIs, Nala Osorio was two for four with two RBIs, Gretchen Horn was two for three with one RBI and three runs, Anna Marin was two for four, and Cayla Ezelle had two RBIs for the Pirates (5-15, 3-7 in conference).

Lacey Combs was one for three with two RBIs to lead a four-hit attack for the Rustlers (0-18, 0-10).
