NAC boys win Southern California Cup

LONG BEACH — The Newport Aquatic Center boys’ rowing team won the overall title at the Southern California Cup to begin the spring racing season at Long Beach Marine Stadium on Saturday.

The NAC boys captured the overall points cup that garnered the title of best overall team in Southern California.

The NAC Novice boys’ team won seven out of the eight events held, and appears to be the clear favorite to win the Southwest Regional Championships.

The NAC Varsity boys also had a great showing, and look to be a serious medal contender in the Lightweight 8 at the National Championships, NAC Coach Marcel Stiffey said.

The NAC Varsity girls finished second overall in points at the Southern California Cup.

The NAC Varsity girls came away with victories in the Varsity 4+ and Lightweight 8. Stiffey said the performance was another positive step as the rowers prepare for Southwest Regionals.

The NAC Novice girls also had a dominant performance, winning seven out of the eight events held.

The recent results put them on track to be major contenders at the upcoming regional championships.
