CdM trio on first team

Corona del Mar High senior goalkeeper Katherine Hess, junior defender Hailey Neumann and junior midfielder Leah Givant have all earned first-team All-Pacific Coast League status for girls’ soccer.

Hess, who also played basketball this winter, produced 99 saves this season for CdM. She had 12 shutouts in goal. She helped the Sea Kings go 11-8-7, and 4-3-3 in league. CdM finished second in league and advanced to the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs, where it lost at eventual champion Palos Verdes, 1-0.

Neumann, a University of Michigan commit, led the team with seven goals despite her defender status. Her second-half goal helped CdM upset No. 4-seeded Westlake, 1-0, in the second round of CIF. Neumann is a repeat first-team selection.

Givant had two goals and a team-best seven assists for the Sea Kings.

CdM senior defender Ally Doherty, sophomore forward Ava McKenzie and freshman defender Katharine Caston all earned second-team all-league accolades.

Dani Solaru of league champion Northwood earned league Offensive MVP honors, while her Timberwolves teammate Bianca Zavala was the defensive MVP.

Siemonsma honored for Sailors

Newport Harbor High junior forward Sianna Siemonsma has earned first-team All-Sunset League honors for girls’ soccer.

Siemonsma, a University of Washington commit, had a team-best 14 goals for the Sailors, adding four assists. She guided Newport Harbor (4-13-7, 2-8 in league) through a difficult season that included the resignation of Coach Larry Draluck midway through.

The Sailors finished last in the six-team league and failed to qualify for the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs.

Newport Harbor senior defender Emily Goltz and junior midfielder Jennifer Garfias both earned second-team all-league accolades.

Huntington Beach senior forward Darcy Wieser earned league MVP honors after helping the Oilers win league. Amanda Jones of Los Alamitos was named Offensive Player of the Year, while Zoe Clevely of Edison and Rachel Harris of Huntington Beach shared Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Lightning put four on first team

Sage Hill School senior girls’ soccer players Lexi Magliarditi, Claire Novotny, Rachael Jaffe and Tiffany Taylor have all earned first-team All-Academy League honors for the recently completed season.

The quartet are all repeat first-team selections. They helped the Lightning (12-5-4, 8-1-1 in league) finish second in league to rival St. Margaret’s and advance to the CIF Southern Section Division 4 playoffs, where they fell at home to Valley View, 3-2, in the first round.

Magliarditi, who is bound for Duke University, scored a team-best and Newport-Mesa best 23 goals for Sage Hill and was second on the team with 10 assists. A transfer from Las Vegas, she finished her two-year Sage career with a program record 55 goals.

Novotny, who is headed to Grand Canyon University and was league MVP as a junior, was third on the squad with 15 goals and added a team-best 14 assists.

Jaffe played both defender and forward and was second on Sage Hill with 16 goals, while Taylor was valuable as a center back for the Lightning.

Sage Hill senior midfielders Lauren Thunen and Janis Jin, as well as senior defender Jaclyn Gerschultz, earned second-team all-league accolades.

Lizzie Barbaresi of St. Margaret’s was the league MVP.
