The Corona del Mar High girls’ lacrosse team has earned the No. 4 seed for the U.S. Lacrosse Southern Section South Division playoffs and will open at home Tuesday against No. 13-seeded Laguna Hills.

Newport Harbor High earned the No. 10 seed for the girls’ lacrosse playoffs when pairings were released Saturday. The Sailors will travel to No. 7 San Juan Hills in the first round Tuesday.

The No. 4 seed for CdM (14-2) is the highest in program history. The Sea Kings made the South Division (Orange County) finals as the No. 7 seed in 2012, and the semifinals as a No. 6 seed in 2014.

Juniors Jensen Coop (44 goals) and Kennedy Mulvaney (42) are scoring leaders for CdM, which shared the Pacific Coast League title with Beckman. Defensive leaders include Katherine Mulvaney, Hailey Neumann, Joslyn Simaan and goalie Ashley Olson, while senior co-captains Courtney Johnston, Paige Nelson, Kennedy McGuinness and Lauren Grable also provide leadership.

Newport Harbor (10-6) earned the Century SE League title for its first outright league title in program history. Now the Sailors will try to win a playoff game for the first time in Coach Matt Armstrong’s five-year tenure.

Co-captains Rylie Siegfried, Jordan Rausch and Katie Hendrix lead Newport Harbor. Siegfried leads the team with 36 goals and also has 12 assists, while Hendrix has 26 goals and a team-best 14 assists.

First-round winners will play Thursday in the quarterfinals at the higher-seeded team’s field. The semifinals are scheduled for Saturday at Irvine High, with the South Division title game on May 10 at Trabuco Hills.
