College Roundup: OCC rowing earns medals

Western Intercollegiate Rowing Assn. championships

SACRAMENTO — Three Orange Coast College boats won medals, including the victorious second novice eight at the regatta completed last weekend on Lake Natoma.

The Pirates’ winning boat completed the 2,000-meter course in six minutes, 38.3 seconds, more than a second faster than runner-up UC Santa Barbara. The OCC competitors included Josh Tandy-McGlasson, Jose Llanes, Josh Baar, Sawyer Schardt, Bryan Fullam, Grand Midstokke, Ryan Russell, Cole Parsons and coxswain Riley Ritchie.

OCC finished third in the varsity eight (6:07.4) and the novice eight (6:19.5).

The Pirates varsity eight consisted of Sam Melvin, Jacob Studer, Maxwell Hadden, David Ulicki, Logan Carter, Ben Orem, Garinn Morton, Weston Cole and coxswain Chase Wray.

OCC’s novice eight included David Elder, Garrett O’Neill, John Kinnear, Rob McClure, Connor Breen, John Rhodri, Mark town, Dan Ross and coxswain Karina Dubourdieu.

OCC was fourth in the varsity four and sixth in the novice four.

WOMEN’S ROWING

SACRAMENTO — Orange Coast College finished second in the varsity eight race at the regatta completed last weekend on Lake Natoma.

The Pirates completed the 2,000-meter course in 6 minutes, 56.1 seconds, more than two seconds behind victorious UC Santa Barbara.

The OCC boat included Tess Burney, Claireliece Kennedy, Maya Takeuchi, Elery Bermudez, Marissa Bonnefin, Kristen Klein, Abigail Daniels, Danielle Dubois and coxswain Sophie Blair.

OCC was seventh in the novice eight final.
