Estancia High football coach Mike Bargas said he received confirmation from a family member at the hospital late Friday night that senior defensive end Jonathan Garcia had no fractures of the spine.

Garcia was injured late in the first half of the Eagles’ 37-7 nonleague loss at University High on Friday.

Garcia was tended to for nearly 30 minutes on the field and was placed on a backboard and transported by ambulance to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana.

After the game, Bargas said Garcia had feeling in all his extremities after the injury, was moving his hands and was conscious and talking with medical personnel while being treated.

Bargas said late Friday that Garcia was being held for observation and that possibly an MRI would also be performed.
