The UC Irvine women’s volleyball program signed three recruits last week, including a pair of 6-foot-3 high school seniors.

Anteaters Coach Ashlie Hain announced that Makayla Wolfe, a 6-foot-3 middle blocker Corona Santiago High, Danika Ferguson, a 6-2 middle blocker at San Mateo Hillsdale High, and Loryn Carter, a 6-3 outside hitter at Pomona St. Lucy’s, will join the program in the fall of 2016.Wolfe was ranked the No. 93 prospect by PrepVolleyball and is her school’s career leader in blocks and hitting percentage. She hit .599 in 2015 to rank among the top five in the nation. Wolfe helped Santiago claim a CIF Southern Section title and advance to the state final in 2013. In 2014, Santiago was a section runner-up.

“Makayla is a talented middle that moves well,” Hain said. “She provides a great block and plays with poise and confidence. She will raise our level on the court immediately.”

Wolfe, is considered a slight project.

“Danika has a ton of potential,” Hain said. “She brings size and power and we anticipate major growth in every aspect of her game.”

Carter is a three-time All-Baseline League performer.

“Loryn will be one of the more physical players we have next season,” Hain said. “She is strong, competitive and should have a lot of success in the Big West.”
