Ocean View duo on all-league first team

Ocean View High senior quarterback Xavier Salgado and senior linebacker Victor Castillo-Hidalgo made the All-Golden West League first team in football.

Salgado completed 73 of 151 passes for 1,213 yards and nine touchdowns, with 11 interceptions. The repeat first-team selection rushed 173 times for 817 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Castillo-Hidalgo totaled 135 tackles and four sacks, and forced a fumble.

Ocean View, which finished 4-6 overall and in fifth place in league at 1-4, had four players on the second team. Those players were Chase Foreman, a senior wide receiver and defensive back, sophomore linebacker Alex Nieves, junior offensive lineman Andrew Helmer and junior running back Noah DeLoera.

Santa Ana’s Damian Macias, a junior quarterback and defensive back, was named the league MVP.

Santa Ana senior running back Jorge Briseno and Westminster senior running back Josh Avila shared the league Offensive Player of the Year award.

Santa Ana senior defensive end Steven Cruz was the league Defensive Player of the Year, Orange senior defensive end Noah Tiliaia-Faletoi was the league Lineman of the Year, and Santa Ana junior kicker Ismael Mojica was the league Kicker of the Year.
