Briefs: CdM girls’ volleyball to host ‘Dig Pink’ event

The Corona del Mar High girls’ volleyball team will be conducting a “Dig Pink” event at its Pacific Coast League home match against Beckman on Wednesday, Oct. 19.

All proceeds from the snack table will be donated to a local breast cancer nonprofit organization, Breast Cancer Solutions. The organization’s chairwoman and many board members will attend the match.

The match will likely be a key one for CdM, which won at Beckman in five sets in the first round of league.

Lions’ Bruce lauded

Vanguard University sophomore Haley Bruce was named Golden State Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week in women’s soccer.

Bruce, a midfielder, who is second on the team with 12 points this season, scored an unassisted goal in the No. 11-ranked Lions’ 2-0 conference win at Hope International on Saturday.

With the win, Vanguard improved to 9-3, 4-1 in conference.

Pro bowling event

The Professional Women’s Bowling Assn. will hold an event at Fountain Bowl in Fountain Valley on May 11-13, it announced on Tuesday.

The Fountain Valley stop is the third of 14 on the PWBA tour.
