College Roundup: OCC takes care of Irvine Valley

Sophomore Sydnee Busby had two goals and Jordan Moore added one goal and two assists for the host Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference game Tuesday.

Aileen Ortiz, Shelle Zito and Lupe Rodriguez tacked on goals for OCC (6-3-1, 3-2 in conference).

IVC is 3-4-2, 1-3-1.

Portland 1, UC Irvine 0 (OT)

The host Anteaters posted a 21-8 advantage in shots, but the game’s lone goal came from the Pilots in the 97th minute.

Kiana Pelacios had eight shots, three of which were on goal for UCI (8-4), for which all four losses have been 1-0 margins.

Maddie Newsom had two saves for the ‘Eaters, who open Big West Conference play on Friday at Long Beach State at 7 p.m.

Portland is 6-2-2.

MEN’S WATER POLO

UC Irvine 10, Santa Clara 6

WALNUT CREEK – Junior goalie Matej Matijevic had 18 saves to lead the Anteaters in the finale of the Mountain Pacific Invitational on Sunday.

Bryant Joudrie had three goals for UCI (7-5).

Santa Clara is 5-7.

UCI visits UCLA on Saturday at noon.

Irvine Valley 3, Orange Coast 0

IRVINE – The visiting Pirates were blanked by the Lasers, ranked No. 8 in the state, in an Orange Empire Conference game Tuesday.

OCC fell to 3-4-2, 1-2-1 in conference.

IVC is 8-2, 4-0.

Portland 4, UC Irvine 1

PORTLAND – Giovanni Godoy scored the visiting Anteaters’ lone goal in the 81st minute of the nonconference game on Sunday.

Portland (6-3-1) had 13 shots, one more than UCI (2-7).

UCI opens Big West Conference play at home against Sacramento State on Thursday at 7 p.m.
