UC Irvine 18, Notre Dame 4

SAN DIEGO — Evan Cassolato went four for four with two runs batted in, Christian Koss drove in four runs and Keston Hiura homered and drove in three to lead the Anteaters in the opening game of the Tony Gwynn Classic on Thursday at San Diego State.

Adam Alcantara was three for four, Adrain Damla was two for two and Cole Kreuter and Parker Coss both had two hits for UCI (3-1).

Sean Sparking allowed two runs on five hits in 5 1/3 innings to earn the victory.

Notre Dame is 1-4.

UCI plays Oregon on Friday at 1 p.m. at the University of San Diego

Sacramento 10, Golden West 8

Zakk Morgan went five for five with two doubles and four runs batted in, but the host Rustlers squandered an 8-5 lead in the nonconference game Thursday.

Sacramento (8-3) scored five in the eighth to finalize the scoring and drop Golden West to 7-5.

Chris Rodriguez, Nick Tringrides and Jake Hinzo had two hits apiece, while Louie Canjura and Jeremiah Vison each had two RBIs for the Rustlers.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Hawaii 70, UC Irvine 63

Senior guard Irene Chavez had 22 points to lead the host Anteaters in the Big West Conference game Thursday.

Chavez made seven of 12 field-goal tries, including four of six from three-point range.

Freshman Brooke Bayman had 11 points and four assists, while Shereen Sutherland chipped in 11 rebounds and nine points for UCI (4-23, 2-11 in conference).

Hawaii is 9-17, 5-9.
