Vanguard women’s soccer team falls in season opener

PULASKI, Tenn. – The visiting No. 10-ranked Lions fell behind, 2-0, and never recovered in their season opener Wednesday.

No. 8-ranked Martin Methodist scored twice in the first 11 minutes and Vanguard got no closer than one goal.

Danyelle Allen’s goal in the 22nd minute pared the Vanguard deficit to 2-1 and Rayven Hernandez scored in the 76th minute cut it to 3-2.

But the hosts put the game away with a goal in the closing minutes.

Vanguard visits No. 2-ranked Lindsey Wilson of Kentucky on Friday.
