High School Roundup: Laguna Beach girls’ water polo dominates, advances

Laguna Beach 10, Los Alamitos 4

LONG BEACH — Aria Fischer accounted for all 10 Breakers goals in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoff quarterfinal match Saturday at Belmont Plaza.

Fischer had five goals and five assists for top-seeded Laguna Beach (29-0). Bella Baldridge had two goals and four assists, while Claire Sonne also scored twice and Alex Peros added one goal.

Thea Walsh made eight saves for Laguna Beach, which will play No. 4-seeded Dos Pueblos in the semifinals Wednesday night at Irvine’s Woolett Aquatics Center.

Redlands East Valley 6, Costa Mesa 3

REDLANDS — Brenna Alvis, Sofia Rice and Kendra Ferguson scored for the Mustangs in Saturday’s CIF Southern Section Division 6 quarterfinal game at Redlands East Valley.

Costa Mesa finishes the season 18-12.

Santa Ynez 9, Estancia 2

SANTA MARIA — The Eagles fell to the top-seeded team in the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Division 7 playoffs on Saturday at Righetti High.

Estancia, which won its first two playoff games in program history this season, finishes the season 13-8.

Division 1A

Huntington Beach 65, Fontana Summit 41

Frankie Wade-Sanchez had a game-high 32 points as the Oilers (20-7) stormed into the quarterfinals.

Huntington Beach was playing its first postseason game after receiving a first-round bye.

April Soedel scored 10 points, Xolani Hodel added eight, and Kaylyn Nakaji had seven.

The Oilers will face Duarte in the quarterfinals on Wednesday. The Falcons (27-4) beat Newhall Hart, 49-44, on Saturday night.

Division 4A

Foothill Technology 45, Los Amigos 23

Cheryl Caldera had 13 points, eight rebounds, and four steals, but the Lobos (20-7) could not overcome an early deficit against the top seed.

Foothill led, 17-4, at the end of the first quarter.

Kacie Vazquez had two points with five steals and five rebounds. Ixy Rendon added 10 rebounds and two steals in the loss.

Whittier Pioneer 49, Sage Hill 40

Kenna Knollenberg had a team-high 15 points, but a young Lightning team made a second-round exit on the road.

Sophomore guard Heather Park joined Knollenberg in double figures with 10 points.

Sage Hill finishes the season with a 16-11 record.
