BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Newport Harbor def. Mira Costa

MANHATTAN BEACH — Cole Pender produced 14 kills for the Sailors, ranked No. 4 in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 poll, in a 25-19, 25-22, 26-24 nonleague sweep at No. 7 Mira Costa on Tuesday.

Dayne Chalmers and Ethan Talley each had nine kills for Newport Harbor (15-2).

The Sailors open Sunset League play at home against Marina on Friday.

Corona del Mar def. Northwood

Patrick Paragas produced 31 assists to lead the Sea Kings to a 25-13, 25-13, 25-13 win in a Pacific Coast League opener on Tuesday.

Tyler Flood had eight kills and Clay Dickinson seven kills for CdM (12-2, 1-0 in league).

Sage Hill def. Capistrano Valley Christian

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO — Logan Senn finished with 13 kills and 11 service aces for the visiting Lightning in a 25-13, 22-25, 25-18, 25-19 nonleague win on Monday.

Shane Larimer totaled 32 assists, while Albert Son had eight kills.

BOYS’ GOLF

Newport Harbor 197, Marina 201

Noah Mayne shot three-over-par 38 to lead the Sailors to the Sunset League win on Tuesday at Costa Mesa Country Club’s Mesa Linda course.

Ethan Barnes (39), Ted Perry (39), Matt Smith (40) and Campbell Norris (41) also scored for Newport Harbor (4-1, 2-1 in league).

Laguna Beach 192, Costa Mesa 229

Junior Kyle Sharp shot three-over-par 35 for the Breakers in the Orange Coast League match at Ben Brown’s Golf Course in Laguna Beach on Tuesday.

Chase Gioffredi (36), Ben Sharp (37), Gus Morck (41) and Dante Fornaro 43 also scored for Laguna Beach (4-3, 2-0 in league).

Jimmy Solano led Costa Mesa with a 41 and Blake Juncker shot a 44.

Estancia 214, Tustin 216

Senior Liam Wallington stepped up to shoot five-over-par-40 to lead the Eagles to the nonleague win at Costa Mesa Country Club’s Mesa Linda course on Tuesday.

Estancia (3-4) returns to Orange Coast League play on Thursday against Calvary Chapel to try to improve to 3-0 in league.

Corona del Mar 188, Woodbridge 194

Clay Seeber shot two-under-par 33 to earn medalist honors for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League match at Newport Beach Country Club on Tuesday.

Guy Clauss (36), Zach Gladman (39), Lawrence Shih (40) and Ryan Shih (40) also scored for CdM (5-2, 2-0 in league).

BASEBALL

Estancia 9, Saddleback 1

Jake Covey struck out eight and gave up one run on one hit for the Eagles in an Orange Coast League game at home on Monday.

Colin Gardner went two for four with two triples and two runs batted in.

Tyler Ross was three for three with a triple and two runs.

Estancia (6-5, 2-0 in league) plays Calvary Chapel at Vanguard University on Friday at 3:15 p.m.

Calvary Chapel 5, Costa Mesa 1

Dylan Schafer, Jay Mann and Omar Munoz each had two hits for the Mustangs in an Orange Coast League game at TeWinkle Park on Tuesday.

Costa Mesa dropped to 6-5 overall and 1-1 in league.

BOYS’ LACROSSE

Corona del Mar 13, Edison 5

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Sachin Gokhale, Eric Fries, Kyle Young and Bobby Purcifull had two goals apiece, helping the visiting Sea Kings improve to 4-0 on Tuesday.

Ryan Meckler had five ground balls for CdM.

The Chargers dropped to 3-3.

The Sea Kings play rival Newport Harbor in the Battle of the Bay at Jim Scott Stadium on Friday at 7 p.m.

BOYS’ SWIMMING

Newport Harbor 120, Marina 50

The Sailors opened the Sunset League with a win Tuesday at Newport Harbor High.

No individual swims were reported.

GIRLS’ SWIMMING

Newport Harbor 105, Marina 65

Newport Harbor won in its first Sunset League meet Tuesday at Newport Harbor High.

No individual swims were reported.

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

Corona del Mar 17, Woodbridge 3

Kennedy Mulvaney, Maria LaBruna, Jensen Coop and Ellery Amdor had three goals apiece to lead the host Sea Kings on Monday.

Katherine Mulvaney had four ground balls, while Amdor and Kennedy Mulvaney had three apiece.

CdM improved to 3-2.

The Sea Kings visit Beckman on Wednesday.

SOFTBALL

Los Amigos 10, Santa Ana Valley 1

SANTA ANA — Jessica Sanchez hammered out four extra-base hits to lead the Lobos (4-7) past the host Falcons (3-7) in a nonleague game on Tuesday.

The junior infielder had two doubles and two triples.

Brittany Fraser struck out 13 over her seven innings of work. She allowed just one hit.

Los Amigos won its second straight after dropping three in a row last week.

Christina Rodriguez, Michelle Islas, and Fraser notched two hits apiece in the win.
