90-foot tree arrives as Fashion Island gears up for holidays

Fashion Island greeted the arrival Tuesday of its new 90-foot-tall Christmas tree as it completed its journey from Mount Shasta.

A crew used a crane to hoist the white fir into place at the Newport Beach mall’s Neiman Marcus-Bloomingdale’s courtyard.

During the next two weeks, workers will add branches to fill in any sparse areas on the tree.

More than 20,000 lights and red, silver and gold ornaments will be put on the tree to get it ready for traditional lighting ceremonies at 6 p.m. Nov. 18 and 19.
