Holiday week weather: Damp Monday expected to give way to sunshine

Share

Forecasters expect the gloomy skies and showers that dampened drought-stricken Orange County overnight Sunday will make way for sunshine by Tuesday.

The sun already started breaking through the clouds Monday morning after the area received between 0.5 inch and 1.5 inches of rain Sunday afternoon through early Monday. The National Weather Service predicts scattered showers through Monday, giving way to sunny skies for the rest of the week.

Temperatures are expected to hover in the mid-60s Monday, growing slightly warmer into the low 70s through the end of the week.

The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory through Monday evening after a long period swell from the west-northwest brought large waves to the area.

Monday morning waves have reached up to 8 feet at some local beaches. The surf is expected to die down by the evening. The weather agency warns swimmers that the surf will be accompanied by strong rip currents producing hazardous swimming conditions.

Following the weekend rainfall, Orange County Health Care Agency officials also are warning swimmers and surfers not to enter the ocean water because of higher than normal bacteria levels.
