Around Town: Downtown H.B. tree lighting rescheduled for Sunday

After being rained out last weekend, downtown Huntington Beach will try again to ring in the holiday season from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday with “Miracle on Main Street,” featuring an annual tree lighting, live entertainment, craft vendors, free refreshments and free photos with Santa Claus.

Santa is scheduled to arrive at 6 p.m. for the tree lighting in the 200 block of Main Street.

The event, which had been scheduled for last Sunday, is presented by the Huntington Beach Downtown Business Improvement District.

Laguna Coast Wilderness Park to host walk Friday morning

Visitors to Laguna Coast Wilderness Park on Friday can walk off their Thanksgiving dinner during a slow-paced 2-mile hike with OC Parks resource specialist Laura Cohen and Laguna Canyon Foundation volunteers.

The walk will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. beginning at the Nix Nature Center, 18751 Laguna Canyon Road, Laguna Beach.

The hike, which includes steep and uneven terrain, is for ages 12 and up. Parking is $3.

Newport Dunes ready to light up the bay Friday

Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort will present its 26th annual Lighting of the Bay on Friday, featuring dozens of illuminated floating “trees” and other decorations on the water.

Santa Claus will be the guest of honor for the lighting at 5:30 p.m. Other attractions beginning at 3 p.m. will include food, a magician, puppet shows, live music and a 6 p.m. screening of “Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas.”

Parking and all the activities are free.

Newport Dunes will open its Christmas Tree Farm from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily from Saturday through Dec. 24.
