3 car theft suspects arrested in Fountain Valley

Police arrested three people in Fountain Valley on suspicion of stealing a car and petty theft, authorities said Tuesday.

Police responded to a report of a theft at a Rite-Aid store at 17904 Magnolia St. at about 6 p.m. Oct. 2, police said.

The thieves had fled by the time police arrived, but a witness provided the license plate number of their car, police said.

Officers discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Santa Ana on Sept. 27, police said.

Police soon found the car in a Ralphs supermarket parking lot at 18405 Brookhurst St. and arrested three people inside, police said.

Breanna Rivera, 21, of Orange, Rudy Gonzalez, 24, and Lelah Mendez, 32, both of Santa Ana, were booked into jail on suspicion of shoplifting and vehicle theft, police said.

Rivera and Gonzalez were still in custody Wednesday, according to Orange County Jail records. Mendez was released on bond Oct. 3.
