A Las Vegas man was pronounced dead after being pulled from the water at the Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort marina Saturday night.

Newport Beach police and Orange County sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of a missing man around 9:15 p.m. at the marina, 1131 Back Bay Drive.

A sheriff’s dive team began searching for the man in the water near his boat, which was tied to a dock. Divers eventually pulled him from the water and he was pronounced dead at 11:39 p.m., according to authorities.

The man’s identity was not immediately released.

The man’s family and friends called police after growing concerned when they couldn’t find him, said Jennifer Manzella, Newport Beach police spokeswoman.

Investigators believe the man slipped from his boat or the dock and fell into the water, Manzella said.

Thousands of people attended the Asian Pacific Festival at Newport Dunes over the weekend. It was unclear whether the man and his family were in town for the event.
