A man was killed Sunday night when his motorcycle crashed into the back of an Orange County Transportation Authority bus on the 55 Freeway in Costa Mesa, authorities said.

The crash was reported at about 8:10 p.m. on the northbound 55 near 22nd Street, said California Highway Patrol spokesman Florentino Olivera.

An OCTA bus was traveling in the slow lane when it came to a stop in traffic.

A man riding a 2013 Harley-Davidson crashed into the rear of the bus, and he was ejected from his bike. Olivera said the motorcyclist had been “splitting lanes.”
