Pedestrian is seriously hurt when hit by a truck in Newport

A pedestrian was seriously injured when hit by a vehicle Sunday night in Newport Beach, police said.

The crash was reported at 6:17 p.m. on West Coast Highway east of Prospect Street.

A GMC truck was traveling east on West Coast Highway when it struck a pedestrian who was crossing eastbound lanes of the highway outside a crosswalk, police said. The pedestrian, whose name was not released, was taken to Anaheim Global Medical Center with injuries described as life-threatening, police said Monday morning. The driver of the truck was not injured.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. The driver did not appear to be impaired by alcohol or drugs, police said.
