4 drivers arrested at Huntington Beach DUI checkpoint

Four people were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs as they passed through a Huntington Beach DUI checkpoint over the weekend.

Huntington Beach police conducted the checkpoint from about 8 p.m. Friday to about 1:40 a.m. Saturday on Beach Boulevard north of Newman Avenue.

Of the 2,065 vehicles that passed through the checkpoint, 986 were screened, four field sobriety tests were administered and four people were arrested, according to police.

Six citations were issued for people suspected of driving while unlicensed or with a suspended license, and one citation was issued in connection with an unspecified traffic violation, police said.

The checkpoint was funded through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.
