Doughnut shop robbery similar to earlier hold-up at hair salon, Huntington Beach police say

Two men robbed a Huntington Beach doughnut shop at gunpoint early Thursday, and police believe the crime may be connected to a similar robbery at a nearby hair salon this week, authorities said.

By the time Huntington Beach police arrived at 12:32 a.m. at Golden Boy Doughnuts, 17671 Beach Blvd., the robbers had fled, police spokeswoman Jennifer Marlatt said.

One of the men was wearing a cloth over his face, and the other had a gun and demanded that an employee hand over money, Marlatt said. Two employees were in the business at the time. Neither was injured.

The robbers left in a tan Honda Civic with an unknown amount of money, Marlatt said.

The business has a security camera but it only shows live footage, she said.

Police said the incident is believed to be connected to a robbery Tuesday night in which two masked men with handguns made off with cellphones and hundreds of dollars in cash from employees and a customer at Zie Beauty, a salon and supply store at 17316 Beach Blvd.

The robbers in that case fled in a gold-colored sedan, police said. No one was injured.
