Summer baseball session opens

The Laguna Beach High baseball program’s summer baseball session for returning high school players only got underway Monday at Skipper Carrillo Field on campus. The camp will run from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday and Wednesday each week through July 30.

Also at Skipper Carrillo Field, the program’s Youth Summer Baseball Camp is underway this week. The camp is open to youth ages 5 to 14, plus incoming freshmen students and will run from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday each week through July 31.

Girls’ volleyball tourney set Friday

The Laguna Girls’ 14-Under Laguna Open Volleyball Tournament is Friday at Main Beach. The one-day tournament includes pool play with a maximum of 25 teams playing on five courts.

USA Women’s team wins in Russia

The USA Women’s Senior National Water Polo Team, which includes Annika Dries and Makenzie Fischer of Laguna Beach, won the Kirishi Cup tournament championship Saturday at Kirishi, Russia.

Team USA captured the title by defeating the Netherlands, 6-5, in the tournament final.

Team USA was unbeaten in the event and posted victories over Hungary (13-10), Russia (10-6) and Italy (11-4), played Spain to a 7-7 tie, and defeated the Netherlands.

Dries scored once in Team USA’s 7-7 tie with Spain July 4.

Laguna’s Fischer selected to USA team

Aria Fischer of Laguna Beach has been named to the USA Women’s Youth National Team roster for the UANA Junior Pan American Championship now underway at the Riverside Aquatics Complex. The Women’s Youth National Team is led by Laguna Beach High boys’ and girls’ water polo head coach, Ethan Damato.

Thirteen 13 female athletes make up the U.S. teamm, which will vie for the Women’s Youth title with Brazil, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico.

The tournament runs daily through Tuesday .
