Briefs: Fischer on Canada Cup roster

The USA Women’s Senior National Team on Tuesday announced its roster of players who will compete at the Canada Cup starting Monday at Gatineau, Canada. Included on the 15-player roster is Laguna Beach High junior Makenzie Fischer.

Team USA, coached by Adam Krikorian, will take on Canada and Australia twice before the Dec. 8 championship game. The tournament serves as a primer for the Holiday Cup Dec. 11-15 that will include Team USA, Canada, Australia, Greece, Russia, and the Netherlands.

The Laguna Beach City Youth Flag Football program is offering a winter season for youth grades 2-8.

All games and clinics will be held at Laguna Beach High School’s Guyer Field. All games will be played between 8 a.m. and noon on Sundays.

Potential players are required to participate in a skills clinic from 1 to 5 p.m. Dec. 15 at Guyer Field. League teams will be drafted Dec. 20. Coaches for each team will determine days and times of practice sessions.

Foot Locker regional

Registration in now open for the 35th annual Foot Locker Cross Country Championships West Regional – Open Division, Dec. 7 at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut.

The top high school cross-country runners from more than 10 states will compete in the 5,000-meter race at the West Regional hoping to qualify for as a national finalist. The West Regional is composed of athletes from California, Alaska, Arizona, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, and U.S. citizens in Overseas Military Installations.

The West Regional is one of four regional 5K races nationwide. The Northeast (Bronx, N.Y.), Midwest (Kenosha, Wis.), and South (Charlotte, N.C.) are holding regional races Nov. 30. Event organizers are expecting more than 10,000 of the nation’s leading high school runners to compete at the regional meets.

The top 10 finishers from each seeded regional race qualify for the Foot Locker Cross Country National Finals Dec. 14 in San Diego.

All non-high school runners are welcome to register for the Dec. 7 Open Race. Registration can be found online at https://www.footlockercc.com.

West Regional schedule: 7:15 a.m.: 7th/8th Grade Boys, Girls’ 2-miler: 7:30 a.m.: Foot Locker Supporter Race (Open Race); 7:40 a.m.: Freshman/Sophomore Girls race; 7:55 a.m.: Freshman/Sophomore Boys race; 8:10 a.m.: Junior Girls race; 8:25 a.m.: Junior Boys race: 8:40 a.m.: Senior Girls race; 8:55 a.m.: Senior Boys race; 9:10 a.m.: Freshman/Sophomore Girls All-West Regional Race; 9:25 a.m.: Freshman/Sophomore Boys All-West Regional Race; 9:55 a.m.: Seeded Girls race; 10:40 a.m.: Seeded Boys race.
