The Orange County Breakers will begin their quest for this year’s World Team Tennis King Trophy against the defending champions.

The Washington Kastles, the 2011 WTT champs who were the first team in league history to go 16-0, will visit UC Irvine for the Breakers’ home opener July 9. It was one of seven Breakers home dates at Bren Events Center announced Wednesday by World Team Tennis.

Former world No. 1 Lindsay Davenport, a Laguna Beach resident, is expected to play in all seven home matches for the Breakers. They continue through the home finale July 28 against the Philadelphia Freedoms. The match against the Freedoms will feature the lone scheduled marquee player to visit the Breakers, former Australian star Mark Philippoussis.

The Breakers are planning several themed promotions to celebrate their 10th anniversary season. Among the theme nights are a celebration of Olympians. It will include Davenport, who won the gold medal in women’s singles at the 1996 Olympic Games.

The Breakers will again be coached by Trevor Kronemann, in his sixth year at the helm. They will fill out their roster at the WTT Roster Player Draft on Tuesday.
