Charles Herbert “Herb” Vincent, former chairman of the Burbank Planning Commission, president of the Burbank Noon Kiwanis Club and member of the Burbank Historical Society, passed away last Friday. He was 86.

Born on Feb. 2, 1928, in Hamilton, Mont., Vincent graduated from Burbank High School in 1946 and worked at A.E. Peterson Manufacturing — Peterson Baby Products — in Glendale, starting in the shipping department and working his way up to national sales representative.

He married Velma Boren in 1947 and the couple had three children; Karen Bertholet, Bob Vincent and Glenda Vincent.

During the Korean War, Vincent was called into active duty with the Air National Guard. He served in the 562nd United States Air Force Band at Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta, Ga., and George Air Force Base in Victorville. He played the tuba in the marching band and string bass in the dance band.

In the 1960s, Vincent earned his real estate and broker’s licenses and eventually became a manager for Paul-White-Carnahan Realty in Burbank.

In 1974, Vincent and his wife opened Vincent Realty, after he served as president of the Burbank Board of Realtors in 1973.

He was a member of the Burbank Noon Kiwanis Club for 44 years, until his death.

At Emmanuel Church, he was a choir member, served on the deacon board and was chairman of the church. Under his leadership, the church became affiliated with the Evangelical Free Church of America.

He was also a member of the Burbank High School Alumni Assn., serving as editor of the “Senior Bulldogs” newsletter for 10 years.

Vincent is survived by his wife, three children, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church, 438 E. Harvard Road, Burbank. For more information, call (818) 843-0900.
