Realtors give bike drive a spin

Share

The Burbank Assn. of Realtors Community Service Foundation held its inaugural bike drive recently and collected 100 bicycles and $1,000 over the span of three hours.

The bikes were given to the Bike Angels, a volunteer group of city employees and local residents who refurbish donated bicycles and give them to children through the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program, Burbank Temporary Aid Center, Boys & Girls Club and Family Service Agency.

The Community Service Foundation is a nonprofit that is part of the Burbank Assn. of Realtors and is made up of real-estate professionals who facilitate housing and education in the community.

The foundation plans to make the bike drive an annual event, said Cheritta Smith, executive officer of the Burbank Assn. of Realtors, adding that it will probably be held the second week of January each year.

“Right after the holidays is the time when people [have gotten] their new bikes so that will be a good time to donate,” she said.
