Two cars were hit by downed power lines on Laguna Canyon Road on Jan. 20, according to the Laguna Beach Police Department.
At 10:01 a.m., dispatch received a call of low or downed wires in the outbound lanes of Big Bend, 2995 Laguna Canyon Road, Sgt. Louise Callus said in an email. Several large Verizon wires came down when a bracket on the pole failed, she said.
Of the two cars hit, one received minor damage and the other moderate damage. A bicyclist was reportedly hit as well, but left the area without contacting officers, Callus said.
Outbound traffic initially was closed and inbound traffic was allowed to pass; however, both lanes of traffic were closed throughout the day and reopened at 5:40 p.m.
Vehicle strikes pedestrian after collision
A woman was injured Jan. 18 after two vehicles collided on South Coast Highway near Cress Street, with one of the vehicles veering on to the sidewalk and striking her.
At 2:20 p.m. police officers responded to the accident, in which one vehicle was traveling northbound in the No. 1 lane of South Coast Highway and the second was in the southbound left-turn lane, Sgt. Louise Callus said in an email.
"As the signal phased to yellow, northbound vehicle continued through the intersection colliding head on into the second vehicle that initiated the left, thinking the northbound vehicle was going to stop for the yellow," she wrote.
As the two vehicles collided, the northbound vehicle veered onto the northeast sidewalk, striking the woman, identified as an Upland resident, who suffered a fracture to her left tibia/fibula, Callus said.
"She was pinned between the vehicle and light post where the car came to rest," Callus said, adding that she was taken to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo for her injuries.
The southbound vehicle spun around, eventually facing northbound in the northbound lane of South Coast Highway.
The male driver, who is from Laguna Beach, suffered mild injuries and refused treatment by the Laguna Beach Fire Department, Callus said. The female driver of the second vehicle, a resident of Lake Forest, was initially unconscious and later regained consciousness but was unable to provide more information. She was transported to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo as well.
