Briefs: Little League Opening Day ceremony set for March 5

Laguna Beach Little League will hold official opening ceremonies for its 2013 season March 5 at Riddle Field. First pitch will be thrown by Skipper Carrillo and Aryton Garcia will play the National Anthem on his electric guitar.

The March 5 opening day schedule:

AAA Division: UPS vs. Crescent Bay Advisors, 4:15 p.m., Riddle Field.

Majors Division: VFW vs. Hobie, 6:45 p.m., Riddle Field.

Breakers boys’ volleyball team fourth in preseason poll

The Laguna Beach High boys’ volleyball team enters the 2013 season with a ranking of No. 4 in the CIF Southern Section Division 2 preseason poll.

Oak Park tops the poll followed by No. 2 Esperanza and No. 3 Santa Barbara. Following the Breakers in the remaining order of the poll are South Torrance, Dos Pueblos, Lakewood, Arroyo Grande, Long Beach Poly and Burbank Burroughs.

The Laguna Beach baseball teams received votes in the preseason Division 4 rankings but just missed cracking the top 10.

There was no preseason poll for boys’ tennis.

All regular-season polls for baseball, boys’ volleyball, boys’ tennis and softball, begin March 4.
