A man and a boy were transported to an area hospital after they collided with each other while riding bicycles along a trail near Alta Laguna Park on Monday afternoon, a Laguna Beach Fire Department official said.

The fire department received a call about the collision near the intersection of West Ridge and Rocket trails at 4:45 p.m., Laguna Beach Fire Division Chief Dan Stefano said.

The bike riders, a 53-year-old man and 12-year-old boy, were taken to Mission Hospital Mission Viejo, Stefano said. The man suffered more severe injuries, including hand and head trauma, and was airlifted by helicopter to the hospital. The injuries were not life-threatening, according to Stefano. The boy had scrapes and bruises and was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
