Fire department names division chief

The Laguna Beach Fire Department promoted Api Weinert to a division chief, fire Capt. Dan Stefano wrote in an email.

Weinert, 43, a Laguna Beach High School graduate, will be responsible for training and emergency medical services, Stefano said. His new role is effective Monday.

Weinert began his career with the city’s fire department in 1988 as a reserve firefighter. He has served as a fire prevention specialist, firefighter, engineer and a captain since 2000. Weinert also served as the department’s fire/arson investigator and teaches fire-based classes at Santa Ana College.

Weinert earned a bachelor’s degree from California State University, Long Beach and is a certified California Chief Fire Officer.
