Tax issues for nonprofits discussed
Laguna Beach nonprofits are invited to a free seminar on pitfalls regarding sales tax, raffles, lotteries and unrelated business income sponsored by the Laguna Beach Seniors and Laguna Beach Community Foundation from 3:30 to 5 p.m. July 18 at the Susi Q Senior Center, 380 Third St.

Vets, 'Mr. Laguna,' tribute dinner set
A tribute dinner for veterans and a special tribute to Harry Lawrence, known as "Mr. Laguna" for his many contributions to Laguna Beach, will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. July 21 at the Laguna Beach Woman's Club, 286 St. Ann's Drive.
Service people who have returned from deployment or who are heading to service will be admitted free. The event is being organized by Lawrence's wife, Zahide Lawrence.

Katsuya opens at former Hush site
Katsuya, a new restaurant in Laguna Beach, will hold its grand opening Friday at 858 S. Coast Hwy. The restaurant is in the former location of Hush, and will offer sushi and other Japanese fare.
The restaurant is the sixth collaboration between Sam Nazarian, French designer Philippe Starck and master sushi chef Katsuya Uechi, according to a press release. Local architect Morris Skenderian & Associates helped develop the site.

'The Deck' opens at Pacific Edge
Pacific Edge Hotel has opened a new, 160-seat beachside restaurant, The Deck, at 647 S. Coast Hwy., Laguna Beach. The location provides patrons views of beach activities and steaks, seafood, burgers, drinks and other menu items. Cabanas are available, as are massages, spray tanning sessions and personal photographers.

Rach chairs cancer ball
Micki Rach of Laguna Beach is organizing the American Cancer Society's OC Baron's Ball, "USO Tour of Hope," 7 p.m. Aug. 13 at the Santa Ana Country Club in Newport Beach.
Tickets are $200 and the event features live entertainment in the style of the
