Water-efficiency expo Saturday

The Laguna Beach County Water District is holding a SmartScape Info/Expo from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at its headquarters, 306 Third St., Laguna Beach. The free event promotes the benefits of using California native plants and efficient irrigation techniques in residential and commercial landscape settings.

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet with landscape and irrigation professionals, attend hands-on demonstrations and free workshops, and meet representatives from local companies exhibiting the latest water efficient landscape products.

In addition, the California Native Plant Society will have a selection of native plants available for sale. Local landscape designers are offering free 20-minute consultations to attendees interested in converting their high water use landscape into a water efficient landscape. Taste of Laguna and business trade show

The Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce will host its annual “Taste of Laguna” and Community EXPO, an evening of food, music and entertainment from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the top level of the Glenneyre Street parking structure.

The event includes a trade show, safety expo, green fest and concert. Attendees can sample foods from Laguna Beach restaurants including The Loft at Montage, Splashes Restaurant, k’ya Bistro, Mozambique, Avila’s El Ranchito, Pasta Pommodoro, House of BIG Fish, GG’s Bistro, the Lumberyard and others.

Businesses will showcase their products and services. The Safety Expo features Laguna Beach police, fire, marine safety, Mission Hospital, doctors ambulance service, Laguna Beach Community Clinic and trauma intervention.

Coastal Cleanup Day is Saturday

The California Coastal Commission’s annual Coastal Cleanup Day will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at various Laguna Beach venues and at Crystal Cove State Park. The event is also the 25th anniversary of International Coastal Cleanup Day.

Volunteers will meet at Crystal Cove State Beach at Reef Point and Pelican Point parking lots, with parking fees waived for the day for those who participate. Other cleanup locations are: Crescent Bay Beach, Main Beach, Victoria Beach, Treasure Island Beach and Aliso Creek Beach.

Mozambique Steakhouse will host an after-party and concert on Saturday for beach clean-up volunteers.
