Home reportedly broken into while man is away

A home on Mar Vista Way was allegedly broken into Friday night while the resident was out of town for the week. His cars, which include a Maserati, were also driven, Laguna Beach police said.

The suspects apparently had a party in the home, which got neighbors’ attention. They tried calling the home’s resident that night, but he was out of the country and didn’t retrieve the calls until he returned, Capt. Jason Kravetz said in an email.

The neighbors reported seeing a juvenile male drive the resident’s cars, the Maserati and a Ford SUV, Kravetz said.

The man returned to find a mess in his home — broken items, dirty dishes and empty alcohol bottles. A few items were stolen, and the damage was estimated at $11,000, according to police.

There are a couple of juvenile suspects, but they have not yet been interviewed or detained, Kravetz said.
